Culinary Event Host / Chef Assistant
Way Cool Cooking School – Seasonal or Part-Time Position
About the Role
The Culinary Event Host / Chef Assistant plays a key role in delivering fun, educational, and engaging cooking classes and events for children, families, and adults. Working alongside our chef instructors, you’ll help prepare lessons and ingredients, co-host birthday parties, guide guests through hands-on cooking and baking activities, and ensure a safe, organized, and upbeat kitchen environment. This role is perfect for someone who loves cooking, enjoys working with kids, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced creative setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist chefs with daily prep, cooking, baking, and class setup.
- Lead and/or co-lead cooking activities following recipes, game plans, and lesson structures.
- Engage with guests to teach fundamental culinary skills and support a positive learning experience.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness, organization, and adherence to food safety standards.
- Ensure all food is handled, cooked, and served safely and at correct temperatures.
- Support inventory and ingredient organization
- Follow all Way Cool Cooking School policies and SOPs.
- Communicate effectively with staff, guests, and management.
- Record time worked accurately and follow scheduling expectations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience in culinary arts, cooking/baking instruction, camps, or working with children preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; enjoys teaching and inspiring others.
- Ability to multi-task, adapt, and thrive in a fast-paced kitchen/class environment.
- Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation (Food Handler/Manager certification preferred).
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Familiarity with basic computer systems (POS, email, MS Office).
Physical & Role Requirements
- Ability to stand or move for up to 3–4 hours at a time.
- Able to lift up to 25–35 lbs. and safely handle kitchen tools/equipment.
- Comfortable working around open flames, heat, and variable kitchen temperatures.
- Agility to bend, reach, kneel, stir, whisk, chop, etc.
- Ability to distinguish flavors and aromas for food quality and teaching.
- Reliable, predictable attendance and ability to work varied schedules (days, evenings, weekends, and seasonal needs).
Schedule & Compensation
- Seasonal and part-time positions available.
- 5–30 hours per week depending on schedule and event bookings.
- Starting at $15.00–$20.00 per hour, based on experience.
- Weekend and/or evenings required.
