Mummy Dogs with Crescent Roll Dough
Makes 8
Ingredients
- 1 can crescent roll dough (8 oz)
- 8 hot dogs
- 16 candy eyes
- Optional: ketchup or mustard, for dipping.
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it. Use a knife or a pizza cutter to cut the dough into thin strips (about 1/4-inch wide).
- Take one hot dog and wrap the crescent dough strips around it, leaving a small gap near the top for the “face.” Continue wrapping the dough around each hot dog, overlapping slightly to create a mummy effect. Don’t worry about making it perfect—the unevenness adds to the mummy look!
- Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
- Let the Mummy Dogs cool slightly, then place two candy eyes in the gap you left for the face. If the eyes don’t stick, use a tiny dab of ketchup or mustard as “glue.”
- Serve your Mummy Dogs warm with ketchup or mustard for dipping! These adorable Mummy Dogs are a hit with kids and make a fantastic Halloween snack!
Halloween Eyeball Skewers with Melon, Mozzarella, and Prosciutto
Makes 16 Skewers
Ingredients
- 1 cup mini mozzarella balls
- 8 slices of prosciutto, cut in half lengthwise
- 1 cup cantaloupe or honeydew melon, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 16 slices of black olives (for the “pupil”)
- 16 small skewers or toothpicks
Directions
- Take each mini mozzarella ball and wrap it with a slice of prosciutto. Gently press to ensure the prosciutto stays wrapped around the mozzarella.
- Create the “Eyes”: Place one sliced black olive on top of each prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella ball to resemble a pupil. Press down slightly to make sure it sticks.
- Assemble the Skewers: Slide a melon cube onto a skewer, followed by a “eyeball” mozzarella ball with the olive slice facing outward.
- Arrange the skewers on a platter and serve immediately. They make a spooky and delicious addition to any Halloween spread! These eyeball skewers are perfect for Halloween gatherings and are a fun way to add a healthy option to your spooky snack table.
Halloween Ghost Brie and Jam Appetizer
Makes 1, Serves 3-4
Ingredients
- 1 wheel of Brie cheese (about 8 ounces)
- 1/4 cup raspberry or strawberry jam (for a “bloody” effect)
- Crackers or sliced baguette, for serving
Instructions
- Place the Brie wheel on a cutting board and, using a sharp knife, carefully slice it in half horizontally through the center to create two thin wheels. Set aside the bottom half.
- On the top half of the Brie, use a small ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut out a ghost shape near the center. Carefully remove the ghost-shaped piece and set aside.
- Place the bottom half of the Brie on a parchment-lined baking sheet or serving platter. Spread a layer of jam across the center, covering the surface generously. Gently place the top half of the Brie with the ghost cutout over the jam-covered bottom half, aligning the edges so the jam shows through the ghost shape.
- If you’d like to serve the Brie warm, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Warm the Brie on the baking sheet for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese becomes soft but not melted, allowing the jam to look a little more “bloody.”
- Carefully transfer the Brie to a serving platter, and arrange crackers or sliced baguette around it.
Pumpkin-Shaped Pepperoni Pizza Pockets
Ingredients
- 1 package of premade pie dough (2 sheets)
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup mini pepperoni slices (or regular pepperoni slices cut into smaller pieces)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Optional: black sesame seeds or olives for eyes, if desired
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll the pie dough on a lightly floured surface. Use a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter to cut out as many pumpkin shapes as possible from both sheets. You’ll need two pumpkins for each pizza pocket.
- On half of the pumpkin shapes, place about 1 teaspoon of pizza sauce in the center, spreading it slightly. Add a small handful of shredded mozzarella cheese and a few pieces of pepperoni on top of the sauce. Be careful not to overfill.
- Place another pumpkin-shaped dough piece on top of each filled one. Use a fork to crimp the edges all around, sealing the pizza pocket. If desired, cut a small stem or face details with a knife for a jack-o’-lantern effect.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg and lightly brush it over the tops of each pizza pocket to help them bake golden brown.
- Place the pizza pockets on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden and crisp.
- After baking, add small black sesame seeds or pieces of olive to create eyes if you made jack-o’-lantern faces. (optional)
- Let the pizza pockets cool slightly before serving. These pumpkin-shaped treats are perfect for Halloween parties or as a spooky snack!
