Chef Mary’s Favorite Easy Asian BBQ Lettuce Wraps

Asian lettuce wraps

Prep Time 5 minutes, Cook Time 10 minutes, Total Time 15 minutes, Yield 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes, or more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef, pork, or turkey
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 4 Heads Bibb Lettuce

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, red pepper flakes and ginger.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add garlic and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the beef as it cooks; drain excess fat. Stir in soy sauce mixture and green onions and sesame seeds until well combined, allowing to simmer until heated through, about 2 minutes.
  3. Serve immediately in Bibb Lettuce topped with Asian Coleslaw and peanuts (optional). Recipe Follows

Mary’s Asian Carrot Coleslaw

Serves 4-6

Ingredients:

  • 1 package shredded Carrots
  • 2 tablespoons Grated Ginger
  • 1/2 Cup Coarsley chopped cilantro

Dressing

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 orange zested and juiced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced

Directions:

1. Toss Carrots, cilantro, and ginger together in a large salad bowl

2.  Combine dressing ingredients by whisking together and pour over carrots and ginger.

3. Allow to chill  and marinate at least 15 minutes.

4. Great with above Asain lettuce wrap or all by itself too. Enjoy!
